Rahel Lampérth

Biography

My DPhil research centres on the traditions of Esther, especially from the Hellenistic and Second Temple Period. I examine this overlooked text for themes of death, prayer, law, power, and gender. My project focuses on scenes of courage and faith in the face of death by looking at the example of Esther 4:16 in the MT, LXX, and AT. This leads me to engage with and problematise the category of martyrdom. I have presented my work at international conferences including SBL and IOSOT.

I am also the Graduate Teaching and Research Scholar at Oriel College where I am responsible for the Hebrew Bible courses taught to undergraduates.
