Joshua Yen

Biography

Joshua Yen is an MPhil student in Philosophical Theology at the University of Oxford. His work sits at the intersection of philosophy and theology, with a particular focus on the problem of evil. His undergraduate thesis examined the meta-theodical distinction between theoretical and pastoral problems of evil and his current research continues to develop the pastoral dimension of this debate. Joshua also engages in interdisciplinary research in ethics, literature, and education. He is particularly interested in the ethical vision of Fyodor Dostoevsky and its relation to evil and suffering as well as the positive and negative ways in which AI can be integrated into education.

Beyond research, Joshua is passionate about bridging the gap between the academy and the public. He hosts Philosophy for All, a YouTube channel featuring interviews with scholars and introductions to key ideas and texts. When not working, he can usually be found fishing, playing football, or watching Chelsea FC.
