Ian Turner (PhD, University of Toronto, 2026) is an anthropologist of religion and literary historian of Nepal and the Newar indigenous community. He asks questions of houses, householders, and homemaking through ritual, storytelling, ethics, and practice. Ian joins the Faculty of Theology and Religion as a recipient of the Canada Postdoctoral Research Award, granted by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. Building upon his specialisation in Buddhist Studies, Ian is currently investigating the ethnographic conditions of the householder as a socio-ritual category, and its influence upon the collectives of multiple religious traditions, amidst Nepal’s housing, population, and environmental crises.
