On 5 November 2025, Royal Mail announced its Christmas 2025 stamp collection, created with advice from Professor Andrew Davison, Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Oxford.
The stamps were illustrated by award-winning designer Paula Doherty and use styles such as inlaid marble, enamelling, marquetry, and collage to bring the Nativity story to life. The collection includes:
• Angel (2nd Class)
• Mary and Joseph (2nd Large Letter)
• Mary and the Baby Jesus (1st Class)
• Shepherds (1st Large Letter)
• The Three Wise Men (£3.40)
As reported in the Oxford Mail, Professor Davison was invited to advise Royal Mail on the religious themes shown in the artwork, ensuring the images reflected the Nativity story with accuracy and care. He worked alongside Professor Ben Quash, Professor of Christianity and the Arts at King’s College London, who wrote the accompanying text for the issue.
Reflecting on the project, Professor Davison said: “The fact that they seek out the expertise of someone from a Faculty of Theology and Religion shows how seriously they take the design of their stamps, and the text in the presentation packs.”
He has previously worked with Royal Mail in 2021, contributing short articles on topics including “The Ordinary and the Extraordinary in the Christmas Story” and depictions of animals in Nativity scenes.
