On 4 December 2025, the Faculty of Theology and Religion hosted its Michaelmas Term Research Event, where Professor Anthony G. Reddie presented his newly published book, Living Black Theology: Decolonizing Knowledge.
Professor Reddie's book examines how today’s world has been shaped by the histories of slavery and colonialism and invites readers to engage in decolonised forms of knowledge production. It also offers an important reflection on the future of academic theology in Britain, viewed through the experience and perspective of Black Theology.
In the research event, colleagues across the Faculty discussed the themes of the book, reflecting on its implications for the discipline, and considering how these ideas might shape future teaching and research.
We would like to thank everyone who attended, and we extend our thanks to our respondents, Professor Katherine Southwood and Dr Tim Judson for their contributions.
Professor Anthony Reddie is the University of Oxford’s first Professor of Black Theology and Director of the Centre for Black Theology at Regent’s Park College.
