Emeritus Professor Nigel Biggar appointed to House of Lords

The Faculty of Theology and Religion is pleased to congratulate Emeritus Professor Nigel Biggar CBE on his appointment to the House of Lords.

Lord Biggar served as Oxford’s Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology and is widely recognised as one of Britain’s leading public intellectuals. In 2021, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to higher education.

Reflecting on his appointment, Lord Biggar commented:

The grant of a peerage marks the culmination of a 40-year journey through academe and the church into British public life. I am deeply grateful to have lived to see the day, and to have the opportunity to contribute my ethical expertise to Parliament’s deliberations, not least about free speech and ‘decolonisation’, and the Conservative Party’s intellectual renewal.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Lord Biggar on this significant honour.
