Dr Martin Whittingham

Biography:

I have interests in both theology and history, linked by a focus on interpreting texts born of my first degree in English literature. I am Director of an independent centre, the Centre for Muslim-Christian Studies Oxford, and also tutor and supervise within Oxford University. While my overall concern is with Christian-Muslim relations, my research focusses on Islamic thought within that field.

Research Area:

Study of Religions

Research Interests:

My research interests concern the history and theology of Muslim-Christian interactions, focussing on the history of Muslim views of the Bible and also views of other elements of Christian faith. I am currently working on a major book project, A History of Muslim Views of the Bible, which will appear in two parts. The first part appeared at the end of 2020, while the second is in preparaton.
