Dr Alistair Ross

Biography:

Alistair Ross is an accredited Minister of Religion (Baptist) and the first half his career was spent serving in faith community contexts. He has also been part of a chaplain’s department in a psychiatric hospital. His worked evolved as a practical theologian, trainer, and therapist. He was Director of the Clinical Theology Association before becoming a full-time academic at the University of Birmingham. He is a senior accredited therapist and supervisor (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) where he was Chair of Professional Ethics and Quality Standards. He is a Founding Scholar in the British Psychoanalytic Council and Chair of the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association.

Research Interests:

My research focusses on the relationships between the sacred, spirituality, religion, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy.
I am also interested on the role of ethics in therapy and related helping professions.
I have further interests in mental health and oral history projects.
